Best Dog Friendly Beaches in Torquay, Victoria

Whether it’s the salty air, the cool breeze or just the sun on your face – there’s something magical about a beach. And if you’re looking for a fun day out with your dog in Torquay, Victoria then we’ve got some great news for you! There’s no need to leave your furry friend at home when there are plenty of great beaches where dogs are welcome. Here are my personal picks for some of the best dog friendly beaches in town:

Yongeyong Beach, Jan Juc

This beach is located in the town of Jan Juc and is a popular spot for many families with dogs to visit. The local council has made it clear that all dogs must be on a leash at all times and are not allowed on the beach after 10am. Dogs are also not permitted in the water, left unattended or allowed on playgrounds or in parks.

Wombarra Beach, Torquay

The Wombarra beach is also one of the popular dog friendly beaches in Torquay, which makes it a great place for family picnics and swimming. The beach has lifeguards, toilets and no cafes or shops nearby.

Point Danger Beach, Torquay

Point Danger Beach is a great beach for dogs of all ages and sizes, but there are some rules you should know before you go.

  • Dogs must be registered with the council and have their dog tag on them at all times
  • Dogs must be kept on a lead while they’re on the beach and under control at all times
  • Dogs are not allowed in the water, even if it’s calm (you don’t want to risk crossing paths with any sharks!)

Eastern Beach, Geelong

Eastern Beach is one of the best dog friendly beaches in Torquay, and it’s also one of the most popular. It has everything a coastal dog could want: good swimming conditions, shade trees, picnic areas, toilets and showers. There are also plenty of shops and cafes nearby if you need to stock up on anything while you’re out.

If your pooch is looking for some more exercise than a swim can provide, this beach is also close to the Eastern Beach Reserve—a huge expanse of green grass where dogs can run around off-leash!

Fishermans Beach, Torquay

Fishermans Beach is a great place to take your dog. If you’re looking for a beach where dogs are allowed to run free, this is the one!

  • Dogs are allowed on the beach, but they must be on a leash at all times
  • Dogs must be under control at all times
  • Dogs are not allowed in the playground area.

Coogoorah Park, Jan Juc

This beach is a short walk from Coogoorah Park, with plenty of parking. A picnic area and playground are on site, and there’s also an off-leash dog area for all those pooches who love nothing more than running free along the sand.

Lake Pertobe Adventure Playground, Warrnambool

Lake Pertobe Adventure Playground is a great place to spend a day with your dog and family. It’s located on the coast, near Warrnambool. The playground features swings, slides and climbing structures for children and dogs to enjoy. There is also a lake which makes it great for fishing!

This park has toilets, picnic areas, BBQs and plenty of parking.

You don’t have to leave your puppy at home when you go to the beach!

We hope this article has given you some ideas on how to make your next trip to the beach a little more fun with your dog. We know that not everyone will be able to visit all these beaches, but if you’re in Torquay or Geelong, we highly recommend checking out Eastern Beach and Fishermans Beach for their stellar views of Bass Strait (and some great surfing). And if you’re looking for something a little less populated than the other areas listed above, head over towards Jan Juc and Coogoorah Park—they offer beautiful seaside locations too!
